![]() They all also have separate oil in the axle final drives, something some people neglegted until it was to late! on later 'center drive' tractors this also supplied oil for the 4wd clutch. The -55XL had 90 grade gear oil in the trans, the -56XL had Hy-tran with a pressure lube system to pump it around the box. Main difference was the transmissions, the 1055xl, as did most of the Nuess tractors have seperate oil for the transmissions and hydraulic systems. The first 6 cylinder tractor with the XL cab was the 955-1055XL, not many made just in 1981-82 the 56's came out in 92. The Nuess 358 has a sound of nothing else with that style of muffler on, hear one whistling miles away. These were the farms 'big' tractor oftern around the dairy and mixed farms around me back then and took control of the ploughing and forage harvesting. We sold a few of these back in the day, and had plenty around to repair. The IH red 956/1056xl tractors are smart looking, when the Case/IH red-black colours came out they looked a bit dull, though the later grill did improve things. But these guys on here are real good bunch and love to look at our European tractors. You have a few tractors you can share on here, just post 'other' colours in the coffee shop page. We do have a few tractor forums in England as you know. Hi David, welcome to the best IH tractor forum on the www. ![]()
